Meet Our Chiropractors
All of the chiropractors that work at The Chirohealth Clinic have successfully completed an accredited chiropractic degree. Upon completion of this qualification they are bestowed with the title Doctor of Chiropractic. When we refer to our chiropractors as Dr. Julia Kidson for example, the Dr. refers to the Doctor of Chiropractic title, and does not mean that our chiropractors are medical Doctors such as your GP.
Now...let's meet our chiropractors.
Julia
“It’s powerful and exciting,” says Dr Julia Kidson. “I change people’s lives by not just getting rid of their pain but by making them feel great again! I consider myself privileged to make such an impact on my patients lives.”
Julia’s passion for Chiropractic began at senior school around the age of fourteen. After meeting a chiropractor and observing him in practice, she saw her vision of becoming a chiropractor and running her own clinic. The great results her patients have had have resulted in not just one but two modern, national award winning clinics.
Julia and her partner Spencer Pullin founded the Lincoln branch of The Chirohealth Clinic in 2002. Following its phenomenal success, the Scunthorpe clinic was opened in 2005. Julia and Spencer work hard to continuously ensure the standards of the clinics are ever improving yet maintain the personal touch of a small hands on practice.
“I have had the great fortune of having Spencer by my side supporting and assisting in the development of both clinics. Spencer has been the full time clinic manager since August 2006. He now knows why our Chiropractors are so enthusiastic about what they do because he gets to see all the happy patients in the clinic”.
She graduated in 1997 from the prestigious Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) with BSc(Chiro). She is registered with the British Chiropractic Association, the College of Chiropractors and as with all legitimate chiropractors, the regulatory body of the General Chiropractic Council.
Since starting clinical practice, in order to provide ever-higher levels of patient care, Julia has attended courses taught by world class practitioners. This has resulted in special interests including Applied Kinesiology and the treatment of problems of the digestive system. She aims to exceed your expectations in health care, helping you achieve clearly defined health goals without the use of drugs or surgery.
Julia keeps herself healthy and fit with regular Chiropractic treatment and going to the gym. “Your spine needs regular check-ups, just like a car or your teeth. Regular care and maintenance along with exercise will keep you at your peak for many more years”.
She lives with Spencer and her 3 big white ducks, George, Olive and Hattie!
Gavin
“For years, my father suffered immense pain from his low back – then he was introduced to chiropractic by a friend and the whole family was amazed by his recovery.”
“It was his success that led to me attending a chiropractor for treatment and then rehabilitation due to my own sporting injuries. Chiropractic became a part of my health regime and when it came to deciding which career to pursue, I only had one in mind.”
Dr Gavin Young completed his 4 years training, graduating with a First Class Honours Degree from the University of Glamorgan. “The course was very intense and detailed but I didn’t mind because I couldn’t wait to start helping others as I’d been helped” Gavin joined the Scunthorpe clinic in July 2005. “I love the day to day life of being a chiropractor. Repeatedly seeing the positive influence I can have on my patient’s lives makes all the studying worthwhile.”
He’s attended many courses all over the country since graduating, and these have given him a special interest in treating women during pregnancy and children of all ages, including new born babies.
“My second passion is sailing and whenever I get any spare time I will be tinkering with the boat or out there on the water with it. The biggest challenge is getting my crew (wife!) in the boat.”
“Due to the physical nature of work and what I do out of work, I normally get chiropractic treatment from one of our other chiropractors about every 6 weeks. I make sure all my family is treated too from my nan in her 80’s to my cousin who is 2 weeks old. Even my dog Vegas visits an animal chiropractor to get his regular chiropractic adjustment.”
Lisa
“It was during intensive training that I was first introduced to Chiropractic” says Lisa. One injury too many on the trampoline forced her to seek help from a chiropractor. “I was quickly on the road to recovery and back on the trampoline in no time, reaping the benefits in my performance. I had always been interested in health and it was this injury that inspired me to begin the long and difficult path to becoming a chiropractor myself.”
Dr Lisa Crisp, originally from Lincoln, has been a keen gymnast since a young age and very successful in her discipline of trampolining. She has achieved Lincolnshire County Champion on a number of occasions and competed at a national level, dragging her family all around the country in the process.
At the height of her success, Lisa was studying for a degree in Health and Sports Studies at the University of Huddersfield. Once that was complete, she just knew she was destined to be a chiropractor. She promptly moved to Wales to begin the 4-year Chiropractic degree.
During her studies she introduced herself to Julia Kidson at The Chirohealth Clinic. In the holidays she started helping out with the cleaning, gardening and maintenance (admire the expertly painted fences!) in exchange for bombarding Julia with questions and observing her treating her patients for hours on end. Her dedication paid off and she graduated from the Welsh Institute Of Chiropractic in 2006 and shortly after joined the Chirohealth team as a chiropractor.
Lisa still has a keen interest in sports and how chiropractic can help keep athletes in top form. She has also completed an additional intensive course on treating the pregnant lady, babies and children. “I believe that a good start in life and regular checkups will keep future problems at bay and in the case of a colicky baby- provide parents with much needed quiet and sleep!”
She’s now retired from competition but focuses on coaching and currently has a role at the highly competitive Lincoln Imps Trampoline Club as a technical advisor.
From crying babies, to teenagers carrying heavy schoolbags, and the general wear and tear as we age, chiropractic is of great importance.
When she’s not in the clinic, Lisa spends time tackling DIY jobs in her new home and has picked up several tricks of the trade from family and friends. She is never far away from a cup of tea and a biscuit!

Amy
“I had very little awareness of what chiropractic was before I first stumbled across it whilst looking for a career in healthcare. I thought that they “just did backs” but over the years I have been treated for everything from headaches to ankle sprains and my understanding of how the body works has helped me to live a healthier lifestyle. The more I discovered about Chiropractic the more sense it made to me to prevent illness rather than just treat symptoms and I am proud to be a part of this profession.”
Dr. Amy Houghton studied for her A-levels at college in Lancashire where she grew up, before embarking on a degree at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic. “During the years I spent studying I particularly enjoyed my final year which gave me the chance to see the effect that Chiropractic care has on the lives of real people.” She has since attended numerous training courses to further her knowledge, such as studying how chiropractic care during pregnancy can be of great benefit and most recently, the Graston Technique which is a very specialised soft tissue therapy.
“I am totally committed to helping each patient achieve their full potential through the application of chiropractic care, from the thorough investigation required to make an accurate diagnosis to those all important lifestyle changes that will lead to a lifetime of improved health and optimum function.”
Amy moved to Lincoln from Lancashire in 2007 to join The Chirohealth Clinic. She enjoys listening to and making music. “I play the didgeridoo badly, and the guitar, even more badly, but fortunately I leave them at home!”
“Finding the right chiropractor can be a very personal thing. A chiropractic clinic is an unfamiliar setting for the majority of people and many patients are nervous, sceptical or even frightened during their first visit.” Amy understands this very well and always aims to make your first visit as stress-free as possible. “I’m more than happy to answer any questions that prospective or current patients may have if that helps to put them at ease”
James
“After 7 years of competing at a high level of gymnastics I thought my sporting days were over.” A gymnastics injury left James with severe pain in his low back and he was referred to a local football team physio. “He took one look at me and declared that a chiropractor was what I needed. After just one treatment my pain was dramatically reduced and I was so impressed that I questioned the Chiropractor all about it. I wanted to be part of a profession that could ease pain so efficiently without the use of medication or surgery.”
Having grown up in Grimsby and with a job that had good prospects, James took the big step of leaving it all behind, attending the University of Glamorgan in South Wales and beginning the four years of training to become a Chiropractor. “It was a very demanding course but extremely satisfying. I particularly enjoyed the hands on aspects of the degree and treating patients in my clinical year. I’m sure my experiences within sport have given me the determination and strength of character I needed to meet the daily challenges.”
James provides care that not only treats the cause of the pain that the patient is feeling, but also aims to improve their lifestyle. “I wouldn’t be doing my best for a patient if all I did was treat their pain and send them on their way. The real benefits to my treatment are in the gradual changes we’ll make to your daily habits which will help to prevent a recurrence of your condition.”
James’s hobbies mainly revolve around sport. He has been a national gymnast and a club golfer, footballer and trampolinist. “I now run regularly for various charities including cancer research, at distances of 10km, half marathon and my first full marathon this year in Blackpool. I plan to do the London marathon in 2010.”
During his career as a chiropractor, James has found that his patients find it easy to talk to him. “I’m a great listener. Give the clinic a call or email me with the link below so we can discuss your specific healthcare needs.”
